AADSTS65001 Severity: Medium Consent not granted
You or an admin have not granted the app the required permissions. Common on first sign-in to a third-party integration.
Affected systems
Symptoms
- AADSTS65001 with 'has not consented to use the application'
- On first sign-in to an app in Teams
- On external integrations like Polly, MeisterTask, etc.
Possible causes
- Tenant requires admin consent for third-party apps
- User consent workflow is disabled tenant-wide
- App requests new permissions not yet approved
Solutions
1.Request admin consent
-
The error page often has a 'Request admin consent' button.
-
Clicking it opens a form to submit a request to IT.
-
IT must approve the app in the Entra admin center, then it works.
2.Verify in a browser
-
Open the app URL in a private browser window and try sign-in again.
-
If a consent prompt appears there, accept the requested permissions.
-
If 'Need admin approval' appears, the tenant is configured restrictively.
3.Try an alternative app
-
Some third-party tools offer a Pro variant without the problematic permissions.
-
Search the Teams app store for alternatives.
AADSTS65001 almost always involves apps, not Microsoft services themselves. Genuine Office apps have no consent issues - if you see it on OneDrive, your tenant configuration is unusual.
