Symptoms

  • AADSTS65001 with 'has not consented to use the application'
  • On first sign-in to an app in Teams
  • On external integrations like Polly, MeisterTask, etc.

Possible causes

  • Tenant requires admin consent for third-party apps
  • User consent workflow is disabled tenant-wide
  • App requests new permissions not yet approved

Solutions

1.Request admin consent

  1. The error page often has a 'Request admin consent' button.

  2. Clicking it opens a form to submit a request to IT.

  3. IT must approve the app in the Entra admin center, then it works.

2.Verify in a browser

  1. Open the app URL in a private browser window and try sign-in again.

  2. If a consent prompt appears there, accept the requested permissions.

  3. If 'Need admin approval' appears, the tenant is configured restrictively.

3.Try an alternative app

  1. Some third-party tools offer a Pro variant without the problematic permissions.

  2. Search the Teams app store for alternatives.

AADSTS65001 almost always involves apps, not Microsoft services themselves. Genuine Office apps have no consent issues - if you see it on OneDrive, your tenant configuration is unusual.
