AADSTS90033 Severity: Low Transient internal error
Microsoft Entra had a brief internal hiccup. Not a user problem - just retry. Usually clears within minutes.
Affected systems
Symptoms
- AADSTS90033 with 'transient internal error'
- Sporadic, not reproducible
- Often gone on second attempt
Possible causes
- Microsoft-side temporary issue
- Brief throttling on the server side
- Transient network hiccups between Microsoft datacenters
Solutions
1.Retry
-
Wait 1-2 minutes.
-
Repeat the sign-in attempt - chances are it works now.
-
If still failing after 3 attempts, continue to step 2.
2.Check service status
-
Open https://admin.microsoft.com/AdminPortal/Home#/servicehealth (if admin).
-
Or public status at https://status.office.com
-
If an active incident is listed, just wait - no cache reset needed.
3.Note the correlation ID
-
If the error persists more than 30 minutes, copy the correlation ID from the error.
-
Send to IT - they can use it to speed up the Microsoft support ticket.
Background
90033 is explicitly marked ‘transient’: Microsoft expects you to retry. No user behavior triggers it. The only exception: during widespread Microsoft outages these errors cluster - then service status is the first check.
