Quick fixes
- You must be organizer or co-organizer
- Polls/Forms is a separate app - enabled in the tenant?
- Breakout rooms do not exist in channel meetings (only regular)
Breakout rooms
Requirements:
- You are organizer or co-organizer (not just attendee)
- Meeting is not a channel meeting - channels have no breakouts
- At least 2 attendees in the meeting
Activation: in the meeting toolbar, the breakout rooms icon.
If the icon is missing, it is one of the three above.
Polls
Polls are a separate app added to a meeting:
- In the meeting toolbar: the + for apps
- Find “Polls” and add
- The app must be enabled tenant-wide - if not found: ask IT
Polls has two modes: before the meeting (settings) and live in the meeting (interactive survey).
Forms
Forms is related to Polls (same engine) but available separately:
- In a channel or chat: ”+” → Apps → Forms
- Build a form or embed an existing one
Co-organizer role
If only the organizer can do things and you want them too:
- Open meeting options (before the meeting in Outlook or via link)
- Co-organizers list, add person
- Save
Co-organizers can do almost everything the organizer can - including managing breakout rooms.
Tenant policy
- Microsoft Teams Admin Center → Meeting Policies → “Allow Breakout Rooms”
- Apps Permission Policies → Polls / Forms
If IT has disabled these, you can only ask.
