Cannot leave a Teams organization
You want to leave an organization, but your account there is blocked - classic chicken-and-egg. Here is how to get out anyway.
Affected systems
Quick fixes
- Leave via myaccount.microsoft.com from your home account, not the blocked one
- Ask the admin of the foreign organization to remove you
- Contact Microsoft Support if neither works
The problem
You were invited as a guest to a foreign organization. At some point the admin blocked you or disabled your account there. Now you want to remove yourself as a guest - but Teams says: “You must sign in first”. Signing in fails because your account is blocked.
Fix 1: leave via the home account
This is the magic trick: leaving does not happen from the blocked identity but from your home account.
- Open https://myaccount.microsoft.com and sign in with your home account (not the blocked one - the one that received the guest invite).
- In the left sidebar: Organizations.
- You see a list of all organizations where you are a guest.
- Click the foreign organization, then Leave organization.
Microsoft removes your guest entry in the foreign tenant - the block there does not matter because you do this from your own account.
Fix 2: ask the foreign admin
If fix 1 does not work (e.g. the foreign tenant restricted self-leave), the only option is:
- Email the admin of the foreign organization
- Ask them to delete your guest entry in the Entra admin center
- Wait for confirmation
Fix 3: Microsoft Support
Last resort: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus with your correlation ID and an explanation. Microsoft can remove the guest entry manually but it takes days.
