Notifications not arriving in Teams
You miss chats because Teams does not notify or delays them. Three layers control this: Teams settings, OS permission, status.
Affected systems
Quick fixes
- In Teams: profile, Settings, Notifications
- In the OS: grant Teams notification permission
- Mobile: disable battery optimization for Teams
Three layers to check
Notifications are controlled in three places:
- In Teams (Settings, Notifications)
- In the OS (app permissions)
- Per channel or chat (mute status)
If all three are right and it still does not work, it is a cache problem.
Status set to Do Not Disturb
If your status is manually set to Do Not Disturb, every toast is lost - even calls. Check the status indicator top right. The Outlook calendar also influences the status: a “busy” or “in a meeting” event automatically sets Teams to DND.
OS permissions
Windows
- Settings, System, Notifications
- Ensure “Notifications” is on
- Enable Microsoft Teams in the list, “Banner” and “Sound” on
Direct: ms-settings:notifications
Check Focus in quick settings - if active, it suppresses toasts.
macOS
- System Settings, Notifications, Microsoft Teams
- Enable “Allow Notifications”
- Style: “Banner” or “Alert”
Check Focus modes by clicking the date/time top right. If a focus is active, allow Microsoft Teams as an exception in Focus settings.
iOS
- Settings, Notifications, Microsoft Teams
- Enable “Allow Notifications”
- Banner style “Persistent” for important chats
Check Focus under Settings, Focus - each mode can allow or mute Teams individually.
Android
- Settings, Apps, Microsoft Teams, Notifications
- Enable “Show notifications”
Disable battery optimization is the main point:
- Settings, Apps, Microsoft Teams
- Battery, choose “Unrestricted”
Otherwise Android pauses Teams in the background and delivers push notifications late or not at all.
Teams-own settings
Top right in Teams, profile, Settings, Notifications and activity:
- Mentions, @-mentions, channel posts should all send “Banner and feed”
- Conversations and calls to “Banner and sound”
- Email notifications if you want them (independent from OS push)
Cache issues
If everything is configured correctly but still silent: clear Teams cache and relaunch.
