Quick fixes

  • Clear cache, restart Teams
  • Cross-check in the web client
  • Check tenant policy if disabled tenant-wide

Quick diagnosis

Reactions work in almost all cases. If not:

  1. Test in the web client (https://teams.microsoft.com in a private window) - if it works there, it is the desktop cache
  2. Test in another chat - if only one chat is affected, it is a local issue of that chat
  3. Have another person confirm whether they see your reaction - if yes, only your display is broken

Reset cache

Delete both, restart Teams.

Tenant policy

Some tenants disable reactions (rare, but happens):

  • Microsoft Teams Admin Center → Messaging Policies → “Allow users to use giphys / memes / stickers”
  • Global reactions can be separately disabled under “Allow reactions”

If reaction buttons are entirely missing rather than just not working, it is policy.

Classic vs new client

The classic Teams client had a few reactions bugs in the last versions before end-of-life. If you still use classic: switch to the new client.
