Channel notifications missing but chat works

Direct chats trigger notifications, channel posts do not. Almost always the per-channel notification level.

Quick fixes

  • Right-click the channel → 'Channel notifications'
  • Set to 'All activity', not 'Off' or only 'Banner'
  • Check global notification settings if every channel is silent

Channel notifications are per-channel

Unlike 1:1 chats, every channel has its own notification settings. If a channel does not notify you, the channel-level setting is usually wrong.

Open channel settings

In the channel list, right-click the channel name (or the three-dot menu), then “Channel notifications”.

Options:

  • All activity: every new post triggers a notification
  • Mentions and replies: only when you are mentioned or someone replies to one of your posts
  • Off: no notifications, only visual indicator in the channel list

If you expect notifications but get none: check if it is “Off”.

Global default

In global notification settings (profile → Settings → Notifications) there is a default value for new channels. If that is “Off”, every newly joined channel is silent by default.

Recommendation: default to “Mentions and replies” - good middle ground.

Global mute switch

Profile menu sometimes has a “Pause notifications” switch (bell with snooze). If active, all channels and chats are silent.

Mobile specific

On mobile you also need the channel in your favorites to receive push notifications for posts. Add the channel to your watchlist.
